| Mark Howe Technologies was founded in the UK
in 1982 by Mark Anthony Howe and aimed at developing new commercial
ideas for the market place from electronics to the mechanical sector; we
started to become established as major innovators in specific areas. The
company also had diverse interests in other areas and invested some of
its profits into scientific enterprises, especially enterprises that
could yield a high return if successful.
Having an excellent background in physics, mathematics, engineering
and electronics, it was only a matter of time when our company turned
its attention to the possibility of beating the game of Roulette with
the use of pocket computers. Initially, a preliminary feasibility study
was carried out which conclusively proved that if data could be gathered
quick enough, then it was possible to get an accurate prediction in
advance of “no more bets” been called by the Croupier.
It took a further two years of research to obtain a working prototype
that could be taken into the casino. Our first system was a Psion Series
1, a pocket organizer that was totally programmable in Basic, but only
having 2 lines of visible screen. We moved with the Psion computers,
next the Psion 11, which had slightly improved functions, but it was the
advent of the Psion 3a that changed the way the system was utilized in
the casino.
This computer had a dedicated speech-recording chip, and a dedicated
FRC (free running clock) for real time applications.
This speech recording facility aided the commands to be more easily
understood, with the exact numbers able to be relayed back to the user,
making the program ready for new improved features that could aid the
player in obtaining even greater accuracy in the casinos.
